new painting
I just got this painting back from being bolted together at the wood shop and tinkered with it a bit more this morning. As yet untitled, it is 40"x36." There's a lot more texture and nuance than you can see in this photo. Once the driveway is cleared a bit more of snow I can go back to taking photos outside against the garage, which really works better.
I'm still pushing myself to work many hours in the studio, with deadlines and other commitments hovering ahead. I do get a little burned out, and just plain tired...but overall there seem to be reserves of creative energy that I didn't know I had.
New studio toys help...a couple of days ago I loaded up a cart in the hardware store with an assortment of squeegees, scrapers and putty knives. Cheap thrills! ¶ 11:56 AM

Great arrangement of parts... sure looking forward to seeing one in person. When I get back, I'll be doing double time in the studio as well... I almost don't look forward to it, but that's what it's all about, right? KJ
Lisa-thanks! I've been reading your blog for awhile now and enjoy your work very much. Thanks to both of you for comments. Yes there are certainly ebbs and flows to this work...right now it's almost more than I can handle, but I always feel grateful to be doing this at all.
I've noted previously that you mention bolting your panels together, Rebecca. What are the dimensions of the panels in this piece...especially the middle ones?? Are there several or does it just look that way?
So far, I've just been working with my 12 x 12" squares as separate entities or possible diptychs.
BTW....the work is looking great as usual.

First, this painting uses Ampersand panels with 2" deep cradles...the top and bottom panels are 12"x36." The center panels: left side is 16"x16," top center 10"x8", bottom center 6"x8" and right side is 16"x12."
It's quite intriguing all the ways that the panels can be put together.
My big challenge has been finding woodworkers with the patience and understanding to put these together for me. I'm on guy #5 so far! My current one is great. Ampersand panels do not always perfectly together so sometimes there is some sanding or planing to do before drilling holes for the bolts.

Hum...you really put them together like collage pieces. Neat. I can see it could be a problem bolting them all together if they aren't really exact with all the measurements on the sides.
I had planned to group four pieces of all the same size originally when I ordered some of these panels but that thought is now down the tubes as sometimes the best laid plans go awry. Now they will just be grouped as it works out and forget about too much pre-planning.
