working on my book
This is not the final version of my catalog cover--in fact, in posting this working version, I'm hoping to get some feedback, a better title idea, or other critical reactions. For some reason, the cover has caused me more difficulties than other pages, maybe because the cover template options available on www.blurb.com (the site I'm using to create this) are more limited than for the interior pages.
This design seems a bit awkward or clumsy to me...I have no background at all in graphic design and at times I wish that I did!
The rest of the catalog is nearing completion, and looks good. It has really been a fun project. Overall I am very pleased so far with the ease of the process and the options available with the (free) download from blurb.com that you use to create your book.

Been thinking on doing this for a couple of years, one book for each of my primary series... but can't seem to find the starting point.
When I look at your cover, I wonder how you might incorporate the margins into the whole... maybe smaller margins, divided spaces the way the painting is sectioned... might be limited by the program. I find the pumpkin color to be a bit strong, the painting should 'pop' methinks...

Thanks Karen! I'm about to ditch the background color, thanks to the suggestions of you and a few others I've received. It actually looks especially strange on my blog's grayish-purple color. Something more neutral will be better.
I also agree about the size of the image. Maybe a full bleed to the edges would be possible. I'll play around a bit. I do recommend Blurb.com if you have any inclinations to try this yourself. It's easy, and they print on demand, whether one or a hundred.

I'm part of the few others group, graphic design is an art in itself, but I know you'll get there, & it'll be beautiful! I applaud the Darnell for approaching you on the concept of the catalog, & the short film.
Galleries need to work harder @ promoting their artists, & keeping up their websites, one hand should be washing the other, to get the sales we all need.

I love the texture and details in your work, and I think maybe a close-up of one of your paintings, without the background/margin would be a really effective and seductive cover. Then I would suggest putting the type in white or some other color over the image -- after all I assume the viewer can get full views of paintings inside.
